What People Say

WP

Wanchai Phromma

Bangkok — retired public sector

I received my GPF statement ahead of retirement and found several figures I did not understand. The review appointment was unhurried — we went through each section and I left with a written document that I could show my family. Nothing dramatic was wrong, but it was worth having a clear account of what the numbers actually meant.

Pension Statement Review — April 2025

RS

Richard Sewell

British national, former Bangkok employee

I worked in Thailand on a work permit for about eight years across two employers. When I asked one of them for a contribution record, I got no response. Sukhothai Law sent a formal letter, communicated with the Social Security Office, and the missing contributions from that period were eventually recorded. It took a few months but they kept me updated throughout.

Employer Contribution Recovery — March 2025

Natthacha Thamrongsak

Chiang Mai — private sector professional

I am in my late forties with several employer changes behind me and a complicated picture across different pension funds. The long-term counsel arrangement suits me well — I now have one professional who understands my situation and I do not need to re-explain everything whenever a question comes up. The annual fee is reasonable for the peace of mind.

Long-Term Strategy Counsel — ongoing since Jan 2025

Somsak Jiraporn

Bangkok — approaching retirement

What I appreciated most was that they told me honestly when there was nothing actionable. I had expected to be pushed toward some further engagement, but the written findings said clearly that the statement appeared consistent and that no particular steps were needed. That was a good outcome — it just took someone else to confirm it.

Pension Statement Review — May 2025

MH

Marike Hendriks

Dutch national, long-term Bangkok resident

The Thai pension documents were difficult to interpret without language support. Sukhothai Law read everything in Thai and explained it in clear English, which is what I needed. The fact that the translation was part of the service and not a separate charge was also a practical advantage I had not expected.

Pension Statement Review — April 2025

PR

Pracha Ruangrat

Bangkok — former manufacturing sector

My former employer had changed ownership twice and the SSO record showed a gap of about fourteen months I could not account for. The recovery process was slower than I hoped but I understood that it required formal correspondence and it was not within anyone's control to speed it up. The outcome was fair and the process was handled professionally.

Employer Contribution Recovery — February 2025

In Practice

Case Studies

Three accounts of how real engagements unfolded, with names and identifying details changed to preserve client privacy.

Case Study 01

Twelve Years, One Employer, One Overlooked Period

Challenge

A client who had worked for a single Thai employer for twelve years discovered on reviewing their SSO statement that eighteen months of contributions during a company restructuring period were missing from the record.

Approach

We reviewed the payslips and employment contract from that period, established that the statutory deduction had been made from the client's salary but not remitted, and sent a formal demand to the employer's current legal entity.

Outcome

The employer settled within three months, and the SSO confirmed the updated contribution record in writing. The client's projected pension entitlement increased as a result.

"I had assumed the missing period was simply not worth pursuing. It turned out there was a clear basis for recovery."

Case Study 02

A Foreign National, Three Employers, One Question

Challenge

A European national who had lived and worked in Thailand for nine years under three different employers received an SSO statement in Thai that they could not read independently. One employer had a different name on the record than they remembered.

Approach

We translated the full statement, cross-referenced each employer against the client's work permit history, confirmed the discrepant name was a registered trade name variation, and produced a written summary explaining each contribution period.

Outcome

No errors were found. The client had a clear written explanation of their full Thai pension record in English — something they had not previously been able to obtain.

"The written summary was exactly what I needed before leaving Thailand. I now have a proper record of those years."

Case Study 03

Long-Term Counsel Through a Law Change

Challenge

A client with a provident fund from a previous employer and an active SSO contribution asked whether a proposed amendment to pension fund regulations would affect their existing arrangements and their projected withdrawal timeline.

Approach

Under the long-term counsel arrangement, we reviewed the draft regulation, identified which provisions applied to the client's specific fund type, and provided a written note on the practical effect on their situation before the amendment came into force.

Outcome

The client adjusted their withdrawal planning based on the updated information. The proactive update meant no disruption to their retirement timeline.

"I would not have known about the regulation change in time to respond if we had not already had this ongoing arrangement."
